I'm on an amazing journey learning how to photograph sports, specifically rugby.
Rugby fascinates me, as a no-nonsense sport that doesn't stop, doesn't hide behind pads and helmets, and doesn't whine. You get hit, you bounce back up. You bleed, you patch it up and go back in again.
It's a great time to be involved in rugby in the United States, as the sport makes the transition to amateur play (at the highest level) to professional sides.
No more trying to balance professional (business) career with practices and games; players now have a chance to focus on rugby as a job, without going overseas to play on teams where they are the set-aside substitutes used when the starters are needed elsewhere.
My journey is not as a player, but as a competent amateur photographer seeing if I can make the grade as a professional.
Make no mistake, I have no ambitions to make a living this way, but I want my work to hold up to professional standards.
Just rugby, mind you. That's enough for now.
